WBS Mind Map Template for MindMeister

by | Updated 13 October 2026

Already use MindMeister for planning? Download this work breakdown structure (WBS) mind map template and adapt it in your account. It gives you a starting structure for organising project deliverables and breaking them into smaller work packages.

The map below shows the template's starting structure. To edit your own copy, download the file and import it into MindMeister using the steps below.

If the preview does not load, view the template on MindMeister.

Download and import the MindMeister template

Download the WBS mind map template (ZIP)

  1. Download and extract the ZIP. Find 1_Work_Breakdown_Structure_Template.mind in the extracted folder.
  2. Sign in to MindMeister. If needed, create a MindMeister account.
  3. Import the file. In My Maps or Team Maps, choose + Create, then Import. Browse to the .mind file and select it.
  4. Open your imported map. Rename it for your project and start adapting the branches.

See MindMeister's current import instructions if the dashboard looks different.

Adapt the mind map to your project

Replace the centre topic with your project name. Use the main branches for major deliverables or areas of work, then add smaller components beneath them.

  • Rename the topics. Use names that make sense to the people delivering the work.
  • Add or remove branches. Keep the structure relevant to your project rather than filling every part of the starting template.
  • Develop the work packages. Break branches down until the work is clear enough to assign and estimate.
  • Use colour consistently. Give each main branch a colour so readers can follow its related items.
  • Review the boundaries. Check that the branches cover the agreed scope without counting the same work twice.

For help deciding what belongs in the structure, read how to create a work breakdown structure or browse our WBS examples from different projects.

Sharing and export options in MindMeister

Choose sharing and export options within your MindMeister account. Availability depends on your plan. MindMeister's documentation states that exporting maps requires a paid plan; do not assume the free template includes free PDF or image exports.

Check the current export options and sharing requirements before choosing how to distribute your map.

This download is a MindMeister .mind file. It cannot be opened as a project file in our WBS Explorer, which uses its own .wbs.json format.
